TUBELESS VALVE STEMS

Tubeless valve stems are required for any tubeless setup. A tubeless valve is essentially the same as a presta or Schrader valve on a standard tube, just without the tube. There is a rubber stopper that prevents the valve from falling through the valve hole in the rim and a metal ring tightens the valve into place on the other side. A small rubber O-ring around the base creates an air tight seal around the valve hole.

When installing tire sealant, a common method of installation is through the valve stem. To do this, a valve core remover must be used to remove the valve core. This allows enough room for the sealant to easily move through the valve into the tire. The tool can then be used to put the core back into the valve. Valve core tools can be used on both presta and schrader valves. Most tubeless valve stems are presta valves, but several schrader valves exist for use with certain rims.

After continuous air refills of a tubeless set up, the valve core can get filled with sealant from the tire. When this occurs, the removal tool can be used to take the core out so it can be cleaned. It is usually a good idea to release all the air from the tire before doing this. Often it is easier to spend a little money and just replace the valve cores here and there instead of trying to clean them. Once cleaned or replaced, the tool can be used to re-install the valve. Now the tire can be re-inflated.
