LIGHT AND MOTION
Light and Motion was founded in Monterey, California in 1989 by two Stanford Students, Michael Topolovac and Barrett Haywood. One of their first products was a 100-watt dive light. Six years later, the company entered the performance bike light market with powerful HMI trail lights, such as the ARC Li-ion HID trail light. In 1997, Light and Motion produced the Apex 730D, their first high powered underwater lighting system at 2000 lumens per head. Fast forward to 2005, the company releases the world’s first rechargeable LED bike light. They continue to innovate in 2007 when they introduce the first camera housing to electronically control a DSLR. Later in 2008 and 2009, Light and Motion produced their first high powered LED trail light and their first high powered LED imaging light. In 2010, the Sola 600 was released which forever changed the dive industry.
In 2014, the company moved to Marina, California which had a bigger and better building to house their vertically integrated manufacturing company. The first new product to come out of their Marina facility was the CL series of lights which were the most powerful, compact, self-contained photo/video lights on the market. They then released the SOLA 9600 in 2016 which provided the ultimate imaging light for the serious diving pro. In 2018, Light & Motion released the VYA series of light, which are motion activated bike lights which automatically turn on and off when you start and finish your ride.
The company’s most recent release is their Stella Kits which are travel-friendly lighting kits which include a hard-shell travel case. Stella lights have been used to help light the stage at the Super Bowl, follow Olympic athletes in South Korea, and cover the cave rescue of the soccer team in Thailand. With many patents and industry firsts to their name, Light & Motion has focused on delivering the most powerful, compact and reliable lights on the market, lights you can take anywhere.
