Electronic Derailleurs

This is where all the action happens on an electronic drivetrain. Electronic derailleurs perform the same basic duties as traditional mechanical derailleurs — moving the chain between the chainrings (front derailleur) and the rear sprockets (rear derailleur) when you shift gears via your handlebar mounted shifters — but what’s different is how they do this. With electronic derailleurs, shift action is instantaneous. Press the shifter button, and zing. There are no cables to move, no delays and no adjustments after initial setup. Just an electronic signal and motorized movement of the derailleurs, perfect every time.

At JensonUSA.com, we carry a full selection of front and rear electronic derailleurs from the major drivetrain brands such as Shimano, SRAM and Campagnolo. All use smart technologies that produce precision push-button shifting performance that you never have to think about. For example, the front derailleur automatically adjusts itself to whatever gear your chain is on in the rear. With mechanical systems, when you shift the front derailleur you sometimes have to “trim” the front derailleur to prevent the chain from rubbing. Not so with electronic. Just push a button, the system figures things out. No more chain rub, ever.

One common question with electronic derailleurs: will it leave you stranded with a dead battery? The answer is no, unless you’re really not paying attention. Most electronic derailleurs typically last months on a single charge, and there are LED indicators that warn of low power. Wireless SRAM electronic derailleurs will give you at least five hours riding time after the indicator turns red, and even if one does go dead you can easily swap out the battery on the derailleur.

If you’re considering switching to an electronic drivetrain, you most likely won’t need a completely new groupset. Often you just need the shifters, derailleurs, wiring harness and battery to make the upgrade. Our JensonUSA Gear Advisors at 888-880-3811 can help with any technical questions and advice.
